Poetry Everyday

"The Burp"
Pardon me for being so rude,
It was not me it was my food,
If it came closer to my heart,
It would have come out as a fart

"The Days We Carry"

Some days are heavy, full of grey,
While others laugh and slip away.
But all are pieces, side by side,
Of who we are, of how we ride.

We carry joy, we carry pain,
We walk through loss, we dance in rain.
And though the road is never straight,
Each step we take rewrites our fate.

So hold today, let sorrow pass—
Like footprints fading in the grass.
For life is made of now, not then—
A chance to fall, get up again.

"Still Becoming"

We are not finished, not yet done,
Each day a thread, each breath begun.
We’re stories written line by line,
Some parts unclear, but all are mine.

Mistakes don’t mean the end has come,
They're footsteps toward who we become.
We’re not the past, not all we’ve lost—
We’re shaped, not stopped, by every cost.

So take the day, the now, the flame,
The quiet wins, the whispered name.
For life’s not built in leaps or fame—
But in the growing, just the same.

Some one came knocking
At my wee, small door;
Someone came knocking;
I'm sure-sure-sure;
I listened, I opened,
I looked to left and right,
But nought there was a stirring
In the still dark night;
Only the busy beetle
Tap-tapping in the wall,
Only from the forest
The screech-owl's call,
Only the cricket whistling
While the dewdrops fall,
So I know not who came knocking,
At all, at all, at all.

"A Life Like This"

A life like this is made, not found—
In scattered light and common ground.
In morning toast, in evening breeze,
In falling down and finding peace.

It’s not a race, it’s not a test,
But moments when we’ve done our best.
It’s laughing when we want to cry,
And daring still to ask but why?

It’s giving love without a claim,
And walking on through loss and flame.
No perfect script, no flawless bliss—
Just one more breath, a life like this.

"When You Are Near"

The world grows softer when you’re near,
The noise fades out, the path feels clear.
A single glance, and I can see
The calm that love can bring to me.

You speak, and even silence glows,
Like petals blooming through the snow.
No grand display, no flashing sign—
Just steady hearts that intertwine.

You are the pause between my fears,
The warmth that dries my quiet tears.
And in your arms, I’ve come to know
That love is where the soul can grow.

What about now? What about today?
What if you're making me all that I was meant to be?
What if our love never went away?
What if it's lost behind words we could never find?
Baby, before it's too late
What about now?

What About Now - Westlife

"All the Ways"

I love you in the smallest ways—
In passing thoughts and everyday.
In how your laughter lingers on,
Long after words and light are gone.

I love you in the in-between,
Where nothing loud is ever seen.
In coffee sips and sleepy eyes,
In quiet truths and soft goodbyes.

Not just in fire or wild delight,
But in the way you hold me right.
For love, I've learned, is not a show—
It’s all the ways you help me grow.

"What Life Knows"

Life doesn’t rush to get things right,
It learns in shadow, not just light.
It stumbles, mends, begins again—
A silent teacher in the rain.

It doesn’t promise only peace,
But offers growth that never cease.
Through falling leaves and turning tide,
It shows us how to bend, not hide.

It whispers truth in simple things—
In broken clocks and birds with wings.
And though we often seek control,
Life gently hands us back our soul.

"The Shape of Life"

Life takes no perfect shape or form,
It shifts with every passing storm.
A patchwork made of joy and pain,
Of sudden loss, of hard-won gain.

It’s found in voices late at night,
In memories that still feel right.
In roads we walked but can’t retrace,
And moments time cannot erase.

It teaches not through rules or books,
But through the quiet, honest looks.
And when we think we’ve lost our way,
Life gently shows another day.

DIRTY SOCKS

Socks. Socks. Socks.
Everywhere.
Nag. Nag. Nag.
Nobody cares.
Landing softly.
Not where they go.
Scuffled in dark corners.
Dirt and dust they grow.
Never united with their pair.
"Mom, where are my socks!?"
"I have none to wear!"
Tossed by the hamper.
Never inside.
Always bending over.
Swallowing my pride.
Socks. Socks. Socks.
Everywhere.
Smelly and dirty.
Next to the underwear.

"Let It Be Life"

Let it be messy, let it be real,
Let every wound be something we feel.
Let it be laughter, let it be tears,
A mix of courage, doubt, and years.

Let it be questions with no reply,
Moments that teach us how to try.
Let it be mornings full of grace,
And nights that ask us to embrace.

Let it be more than just survive—
Let every hour remind we’re alive.
Not always perfect, not always clear,
But full of heart, while we are here.

"Through the Seasons"

Life is a tree through shifting skies,
It bends with winds, it learns, it tries.
In spring it blooms, in summer glows,
In autumn falls, in winter slows.

Yet every root grows deep and strong,
It learns to stay when nights are long.
The branches stretch, they reach for light,
Even in darkness, they hold tight.

So life is not just loss or gain,
But loving still through sun and rain.
For every season, hard or kind,
Leaves something blooming in the mind.

"The Path"

Life is a road we cannot chart,
It twists through head, it winds through heart.
We stumble, fall, and learn to rise,
To greet the dawn with clearer eyes.

For every step, both wrong and true,
Shapes the soul into something new.
And though the journey may feel wide—
The way is found from deep inside.

Sold Out

The yard sale was great.
Sold everything in my place.
Now to start over new.
Influencers tell me what to do.
Have a need for food, shelter, and clothes.
They say that's not the way to go.
Buy products online,
Thats cheap and refined.
Use a credit card,
Get whatever you want.
Paying the bill is just an affront,
Go to thrift stores for a better jump.
What you want and need,
May be different indeed.
I can't fry my eye lashes to eat,
Hair products can't keep me warm.
Tattoos won't make a room for you.
No place to keep all my stuff that was cheap,
Live in a car with no place to sleep!

Where the Quiet Lives

I found you where the quiet lives,
Between the breath the evening gives.
Your smile, a lantern in the rain,
A gentle light that eased my pain.

The world can roar, the night can cry,
But your soft voice will still reply.
A whisper warm, a hand to hold,
A promise made, more dear than gold.

And should the years begin to fade,
The dreams we built, the plans we made,
Know this, my love: I will remain,
A steady fire through loss or gain.

For though the earth may shift and shake,
And oceans part, and mountains break,
I’ll find you still, in shade or sun,
My only heart, my only one.

I have a book half full of poetry and a couple of people read it and said it was pretty dark. Not sure where that book is, I don't remember them off of memory. I used to write poetry leave it in a church with a white rose in remembrance of my son. I'm sure it touched quite a few hearts.

You want dark? Here's dark. I wrote this about 30 years ago.

What's it like to be dead I cried, and heard Death say to me:
I'm cold, I'm hard and it's a long, long ride from here to eternity.
Breathe on me Thy breath, O Death,
And make my bones dry as the heath.
O wrap thine ice fingers 'round and with Thy chill'ed breathing bound

My throat, my chest, my body all and with me through Oblivion fall.
Then lay me in a sealed tomb and wait with me in wakeless gloom.

Ashes and Stars

We are made of dust and fire,
Born to climb, to break, aspire.
But every flame must one day fade,
And lie beneath the stone and shade.

Still, ashes rise and stars ignite,
And what was lost returns to light.
So mourn me not with bitter cries,
But lift your face and watch the skies.

For there I’ll be, in silent flame,
A flicker whispering your name.
No grave can cage what love has known
You’ll find me when you stand alone.

If Love Were a Garden

If love were a garden,
I would plant you at the center,
where the sun could kiss your leaves
and the rain could sing you awake.

I would tend you gently,
pulling away the weeds of doubt,
watering you with every word of kindness
I could find.

And when your roots grew deep,
when your blossoms turned
to colors unseen before,
I would not claim you as mine—
for love is not a cage.

I would simply stand in awe,
grateful to have watched you bloom,
knowing that even if the seasons turned
and petals fell like tears,
your beauty would remain
in the soil of my soul forever.

It's dark without the mention of death or anything to do with death......nice one NR

The Hollow

Beneath my ribs, the hollow hums,
A cavern carved by death that comes.
It drips in echoes down the bone,
Where once I dreamed—I dream alone.

No heaven calls, no hell replies,
Just static stitched through empty skies.
I reach for ghosts that do not stay,
They flicker, then they fade away.

The soul, if such a thing exists,
Is not a flame, but fog and fists—
A wound that walks, a scream unfurled,
A shadow feeding on the world.

The Unburied

I buried him, or so I thought—
With roses red and silence bought.
But still he walks behind my eyes,
With broken teeth and lullabies.

The soil rejects what mourners weep,
For death, my friend, does not mean sleep.
It gnaws the soul, it stains the light,
It dances coldly through the night.

He whispers truths too sharp to say—
That peace is just the price we pay
To not remember what we’ve done,
To not become what we outrun.

Some things vanish.
Others become language.

A star dies in silence.
But the metaphor it leaves behind keeps speaking.

Some people burn loud and fast,
but leave nothing worth repeating.

Others live like quiet truths
and leave behind stories that stay.

Soul Rot

The soul is not a gentle flame—
It rots, it writhes, it starves for name.
It feeds on pain, and wears a grin,
And coils like smoke beneath the skin.

It isn’t clean, it isn’t white,
It’s forged in filth and fed by night.
The saints all rot, the devils feast—
And both are bones beneath the beast.

So burn the prayers, and break the glass,
This life is not a thing to pass.
It grips, it drags, it never ends—
The soul decays, but never bends.

Hardship

The nights are long, the bread is thin,
You wear your grief beneath your skin.
The world won’t stop to catch your fall,
It watches cold, if it sees at all.

But still you rise on splintered feet,
With nothing left, and no retreat.
For even when the sky won’t bend—
You walk, you fight, you do not end

Hollow Lantern

My soul is a hollow lantern,
swinging in the wind of endings.
Its light has guttered,
the wick drowned in its own wax.

I feel the cold breath of the grave
curling into my lungs,
teaching me to exhale silence.

Beneath my ribs,
a black ocean rises,
and somewhere deep inside it
a single bell tolls,
calling my name
again and again
until the marrow answers.
