A lodge brother just sent me an e-mail. His company is in the process of upgrading from an IBM-z14 server to a z16, and wanted to know if I would enjoy their old one (like who wouldn't!). He said that between himself and his two son's they could get it into the basement, where it is nice and cool. It has it's own battery backup that will last about an hour, to do a shut down, but with my home generator, the battery will only need to be used for 10 seconds or less. It runs on a version of UNIX, so there would be no compatibly problems with any of the computers in the house. With 50tb of storage, it would be like having my own private cloud. Of course I wrote him back and said yes, so I guess now I will just wait until he can get it over and do the setup.
