The Expanse series starting with Leviathan Wakes is pretty good sci-fi.

I second The Expanse. Also Peter Hamilton's Commonwealth series and the Children of Time series by Adrian Tchaikovsky, for science fiction.

You could try the Reacher series by Lee Child or Daniel Silva is very good, maybe you'd like the Orphan X series by Gregg Hurwitz or Dan Brown's latest The Secret of Secrets, all of them are well worth reading. Insomnia is a real killer.

The Expanse is great, but a lot of Books. If you like it more compact I higly recomend The Risen Empire by Scott Westerfeld. Its a facinating Sifi universe and a very fastpasted story.

Not only my intro into the universe but one of my fave books of all time. Part 1 of 3, could not put them down and even held my breath a few times. Very rare in reading

A little dated now, but still a good read.

Stranger in a Strange Land is an all time classic Sci-Fi novel. Definitely check it out

I found it badly written, with very flat characters and the sciency bits are either very on the nose (the three body problem stuff) or just get magically handwaved to an absurd degree (the final plot device).

All in all, I stopped some 50 pages into the second book.
That said, I'm not big into SciFi books anyway and the only recent ones I liked were Monk & Robot and Noumena, both decidedly not on the hard sci-fi side.

The Secret of Secrets by Dan Brown
The novel looks at both spy stuff and at a topic I have never seen before, "what happens after you die?"
I am old enough to care about that last part...

Can really recommend Three-Body Problem for scifi. I also recently read a collection of Isaac Asimov's work, found most of them fascinating, besides (or maybe because) they are multiple decades old

I'm reading John le Carre's spy thrillers for the first time. I've seen the films and TV shows and expected the novels to be dry and a bit slow but they're not. They're not a thrill a minute stuff like Bond but they're engrossing and really well plotted.

Have you read the Ian Flemming James Bond Novels? Aside from being dated and sexist, they hold up decently well as spy novels. It's worth checking one out if you like the genre to see how it all started and if you like it, there are a bunch of them.

Might be a little dated, but anything by Frederick Forsyth. Day of the Jackal or The Odessa File are both compelling and easy to read.

Pandora's Star by Peter F. Hamilton. If you like it, there is a lot more to read in that saga, and from that author. He always explores new concepts.

I tend to read most things by Brandon Sanderson (if scifi/fantasy is your thing). I also read light novels and I've found a number I've liked, like Mercedes and the Waning Moon, or Disciple of the Lich, or So I'm a Spider, So What?

The Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell. First book is called Lost Fleet: Dauntless.

It's not really a spy novel but i can't recommend it enough. Yellowface by Rebbeca F. Kuang is a hell of a thrilling story about a woman who steals her friend's novel idea and try to live the lie. Thrilling and funny until the very end!
And if you insist on something sci-fi, then I can recommend any sci-fi novel by Brandon Sanderson. I didn't read all of them but every single one i touched was a good one!
