I just ventured into the Win11 world.
When you say Windows you know there may be a glitch or two.

Have you had any problems, glitches or something that just something that annoys you.

Feel free to share with us what the issue was/is and how you were able to correct it if you were.

To be honest I am hoping to pick up some helpful hints as I am a bit slow getting on the W11 bandwagon.

I am eager to learn something from good first hand information as compared to trial and error method.

Hoping we can have a good conversation and share some helpful hint.

These are very odd, and possibly very specific issues, but I had the following problems when I upgraded to Win 11.

iCue - I run the Corsair iCue software on my machine to basically swtich off all of the RGB lights on my fans, ram, AIO Cooler and Keyboard. When I upgraded, iCue lost sight of all of my connected devices, and my whole rig lit up like a flashing Christmas tree. To resolve I had to uninstall the software, re-start my machine, and re-instal the software and set everything up again.

Excel - A strange one, but after the upgrade I could no longer double click on an excel file to open it up. It would open up the excel application, but only show a blank grey screen. I had to open the excel application first, and then Open my excel within the application itself to get it to open my files. A bit annoying. I haven't actually resolved this one yet.

USB / Bluetooth Devices - 1 USB device, and my bluetooth headphones where not showing up after the upgrade. I had to go to my Device Manager settings to get my machine to recognise them again.

Other wierd things I've noticed, and have mostly resolved
- It stopped showing the date in the bottom right corner of my monitors., it only showed the time, and I had to click on it to see what date it was. I like to know the date, so I fixed this in settings somewhere.
- There was an app history or "apps you have used recently" menu beside my start button when I upgraded. I really wasn't a fan, so I got rid of that in settings.
- The Notifications pop up or tab in the right hand corner is a pain. It's basically just notifications from Nvidia repeatedly telling me to update.
- I find that applications are no longer in focus when I interact with them., their default seems to be to go to the background. For example, if I can take a screenshot with the Snipping Tool, I then have to click on the app's icon in my toolbar to see the screenshot I just took. Before this would persist in the foreground. I haven't resolved this one yet.
- I had to reconfigured my headphones, mic, and all that. I have speakers plugged into my PC, and speakers in my monitor, that I don't like to use, so I disable these in settings. I had to redo all of this when I upgraded. I do find though that I'm not really a fan of using the new settings menu for all of this, - like configuring my headphones and mic - but thankfully Windows still supports all of the old menu's that I'm more familiar with for configuring all of this stuff.

So yeah, these are very nuanced issues I've had, and they're probably specific to me, But thought I'd share.

Overall I'm happy enough with Win 11 so far, and I'm glad I bit the bullet and made the move.

Thanks mate for an excellent example of what I was talking about.

Gonna tell my first issue with w11.
I bought this mini computer and loaded with W11 pro.
This is my first time with this OS.

I hooked up my ethernet cable figuring to grab all the updates on first run.
Everything going good until one update stalls, I sit here for an hour waiting and watching.
Finially I just powered off.
Tried it again and same results.
On the 3rd try, I unhooked the ethernet and started without internet.

SUCCESS at last, my machine was up and running.

Little bit later I noticed I had updates that needed installed via windows update.
Well all went good except for one update which failed each time.
I tried several time to update with windows update and fail each time.
I went to MS and downloaded the update (Sorry but I cant remember which one it was)
This would not install either, failed each time.

I used the reset PC option and still no luck with this one update..

The Solution:
Finally I went to MS and got a fresh ISO and reinstalled windows from this.

Problem solved although I have no idea what it was.
And the funny part is, I can not see the update in question on my installed update list.

In a MS discussion there were other with the exact same issue with same update so it was not isolated to just me.

There's a long list of differences and features that 11 holds above the past.

I am not sure if MS is going to decide to backport any of them either... but, there's a new:

MSPaint
CoPilot (AI assisted search)
Photos
Settings app (replaces Control Panel; not yet, but they're working on it)
Start menu can be centered, or on the left
Search for Taskbar, separate search for Task Manager (to find/kill apps etc)
Tabbed File Explorer (still has issues)
Home and Gallery app in Explorer to host your most used folders/photos
Dark/Light themes
Windows Update now supports additional, optional update toggle (you can decide to update before public release)
Rounded system windows vs. flat, squared of Windows 10

Still more to add to the list... and yes, like any other release, she's got issues. Performance wise, I'd say she easily outshines 10 in just using Explorer alone. I work with Explorer exclusively and having tabs you can drag in and out, instead of having to constantly open up new instances, helps speed things along.

Would not recommend joining the Windows Insider unless you can tolerate working with issues that take MS a lifetime to fix. Say, when they screw up Safe Mode.. and it takes at least two/three weeks for them to get around to resolving it.

***I will SECOND THAT, I do not recommend "Windows Insider" unless you enjoy being a Lab Rat and that buggy excuse for an Operating System WIN11 should never have been released as a "Final*.
This one has had it since: 8/19/21 Has WIN11PRO "repaired your "Snipping Tool" yet?:lmao::lmao: (ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE A CLEAN INSTALL SO WON'T HAPPEN)
BCWwjx0.jpg

I was an "INSIDER for a "Microsoft Office" and some earlier Operating Systems, one Microsoft Office was particularly BUGGY and when it did go RTM. They thanked us for our hard work THEN THEY KILLED our ability to use the Office WE HAD LOADED on our computers for testing, if we wanted it we could BUY IT like everyone else.

*After one resent "WIN11 Update" when I went to select a "File" in File Explorer, ..........File Explorer to use with a program it wouldn't show all the files properly and would freeze, that has been corrected.

**I said I wouldn't use WIN11PRO on the main computer I use BUT, here I am after time and using it on my daily computer. It's a lot more civilized than when it first showed up.
You're very lucky you waited so long because it's actually fairly usable now but, STAY AWAY FROM INSIDERS!:lmao::laff:

While most know I use Linux, I am a system admin for a company that obviously uses Windows. Some of our new devices use Win11 and my biggest gripe is I look like I don't know what I am doing when I open the control panel and settings and am digging for something they moved. I am sure many power users will have the same frustration looking for a setting you know exists but not sure where they moved it to. It was bad in Windows 10 but its even worse now.

Generally most of us all are, I would say lol
But if it ain't broke why does Window$ have to touch it
All comes down to Monetization and Greed. I would not put it past them to go full software as a service for Windows 12, they already experimenting with it for IoT Devices for enterprise. Likely will go something along the lines of pay a subscription or get advertised to death.

Generally if something is free, you are the product. Microsoft has the audacity to sell Windows as a paid product and bundle junk and analytics harvesting tools and push adverts and sponsored software and spyware (MacAfee, Avast, etc.).

They will eventually End of Life Win10 so its upgrade or risk security of your machine.
Hackintoshes are a thing of the past with the next version of MacOS likely not supporting Intel. Linux while mostly usable aside from some adobe products and specialized audio software is inaccessible as its not pre-installed on anything and heavily gatekept by elitists.

Unfortunately Windows users really have no other choice. Thankfully you can remove most of the junk but core design choices just making using a computer a chore as opposed to a productivity tool. Computers are becoming less and less accessible.

Perfect summary of Window$, my view is when it comes to what's next for Window$ looks like you might be on the money.

When it comes time update to the latest, hopefully it's not too hard to remove all the junk as most of us aren't tech experts

October 26, 2023—KB5031455 (OS Build 22621.2506) Preview

Read through this and I see nothing really of interest to me and its a preview so a HARD pass from this ole boy.
Maybe next year I may consider it after the bugs have hopefully been worked out.

No disagreements here... but, remember, there's still bugs in Windows 2000, XP, 7.. 8... 10.... and I believe, 7 was the last one to be fully themed, and we're still using XP icons in 11.

So... yeah, I agree.. but jump when you feel froggy. 😂

Any "preview" release is just that... the trigger has been pulled and it's a last ditch attempt before Patch Tuesday to catch the current bugs that are being worked on. Once Patch Tuesday hits... the preview is the live version... and since we're getting closer to 23H2, the enablement package has yet to be triggered. All 11 users who have updated to this point, should still be on 22H2 until that package is released.

Could one of the biggest problems with 11 be that 12 is just around the corner?
Now just how are they going to attract you to jump to 12 if it shows itself in 2024?
With
Windows 11's 23H2 update and it's WINDOWS "AI" Copilot, will YOU even have the choice on whether you Upgrade to 12????? Or will it decide for you?

It would have to be a Spectacular NEW OS for me to change to it after all the crap adjusting to 11 was. Not sure what it would take to get me to run 12. Maybe just curiosity and I imagine it is going to be very demanding as far as system requirements. Or like mentioned above, "Will I have a choice?":lmao::lmao:

Windows 12 Will Have More Built-In AI

Windows 11's 23H2 update brought powerful new artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the form of It's Windows Copilot, already impressive and powerful, though it could stand to have more PC-control capabilities. This kind of user-facing predictive and assistive tools should only get stronger in Windows 12, and AI technology can also improve back-end things like code stability and update delivery................
Any Opinions????

I have a lot of reservations with AI, but this may come from watching too many Movie/TV shows.
Too old for all these changes and I dont think I will ever adjust.

I suspect the AI offering is just an excuse to suck up more of our data :/

Windows 7 was a good OS, Vista sucked so much that when they finally got the majority of the bugs out or repaired they had to call it a new OS because so many were completrely put off with Vista so they called it Windows 7.
Why I wonder did they dump My Computer, You could get to everything thru My Computer. Probably because too many were familiar with it so they had to discard in order to keep flaws a secret.

I created a topic about Win11 here because I was having trouble with it and wanted to make sure it wasn't just me. Most people who replied agreed that it just wasn't that great and needs work. I recently did a fresh install of a newer version so we'll see how it works out.. for now, still annoyed that it has icons instead of text for cut/copy/paste (why?) and the start button being in the middle (Ok, I get it, it's easier to reach in the middle... but the Start button has been in the lower left corner for the 25+ years that Window has been around, so... again, why?)

If you want to offer these radical changes, ASK the user during the setup instead of adding unnecessary confusion out of the box.

these are very nuanced issues I've had, and they're probably specific to me, But thought I'd share.
I truly don't think it's specific to you - I have also had weird things happen like every time I play a game the Xbox One controller (genuine microsoft brand with the official dongle) needs me to re-sync it every time. My only guess is that since I dual boot and launch Win10 sometimes, there's a conflict there, but I really have no idea. The controller works every time in Win10.

I'm no fan of 11 but, have been running it on one system since the earliest days of it when it was total junk, it has settled down somewhat.
Unfortunately I've been following PCMagazine and some of their "sources" and it sounds like we might just get a WIN12 in 2024 (Still rumoured)
But leaks are predicting some additional ridiculous "AI" changes and 12 will be going "Subscription". I guess we shall see in 2024. "Part of one article below"

We currently have two main versions of Windows 11 - Home and Professional, which cost a set price and include free updates for the lifetime of the operating system. It looks as though Microsoft may change that for Windows 12, with the upfront cost replaced by an ongoing subscription charge that would limit access to features based on the subscription tier chosen.
