After ten years of carefully collecting, I finally hit 10% free space on my 2TB WDMyCloud.

Normally I'd just buy another WDMyCloud, but I read they've gutted their OS and now require you to be online all the time -- not something I'm interested in.

So I'm in the market for a NAS. I've never used one before - the WDMyCloud did everything I needed. I'm not really sure what to look for.

The only requirement I really need is KODI must be able to connect to it. I have a combination of PCs, Android Tablets, Amazon Fires and Smart TVs all connecting to it, but they all use KODI.

So what do you all use?

i built my own server and use unraid with plex as a front end media metadata manager. you could connect to it the same way with kodi...but imo.....why kodi though??? plex lifetime pass just makes life too easy. black friday you should be able to pick up 14tb nas pro drives again for around 200 bucks. grab as many as you can afford and start there. i have over 300tb of crap and it just keeps growing. Grab a starter case that can house 15 or more drives and start building

I don't have one, if I want to watch muliple films I just list them in VLC player :) I thought about building one but then I saw no point, so I didn't bother

I used to have a large collection of software and media on a ReadyNAS, over the years I had to replace drives that were costly.
I didnt use/watch much so ditched it.
Now I have about 4TB of MP3 and backups and backups of backups.

With a Gigabit connection I can download a movie in minutes so its pointless keeping a collection.

Yea, there is indeed that.
