What are your all time favorite TV shows and why?

It can be a difficult decision to pick the best, so by all means feel free to name several, especially if they belong to different genres, e.g. action, comedy, sci-fi, animated etc.

In my case, like in music I'm stuck to the old classics, they don't seem to make them like that any more. So what come to mind are Sherlock Holmes (quality who-done-it), Star Trek (well conceived and executed sci-fi), Alias Smith and Jones (western action with humor) and Kojak (police story with values and logical deductions).

At the other end, I detest horror and excessive violence. I'm also put off by highly unrealistic and confusing action scenes.

Alias Smith and Jones was a good show - do you remember the Sons of Will Sonnet? As a kid I loved Jonny Quest. In college it was the 3M (Mork/MASH/I can't Remember). Today, nothing really stands out. I watch several via d/l - but nothing is really gripping. I liked The Unit - but it could only go so far before getting into Classified TTP.

@ Niman - It was actually The Guns of Will Sonnett, starring Walter Brennan. I have both seasons.

As for my favorite shows: All Star Trek series, Poirot, Inspector Lewis, Inspector Morse and Game of Thrones.

As I get older I find that I don't have a favourite series any more.
There is just to much to watch now to keep going back to old stuff.
But we are watching Space 1999 all over again just because it's so lame.
