Cybersecurity researchers raised the alarm this week after discovering the 'Mother of all Breaches' (MOAB).
With 26billion records leaked online, experts say this is the single biggest data leak in history.
Sensitive records from popular sites including Twitter, Dropbox and Linkedin were discovered on an unsecured site, which experts say could spark a 'tsunami of cybercrime'.
The researchers discovered that 12 terabytes of data had been stored on an open instance, hidden in plain sight on the internet.
This data included billions of username and password combinations as well as highly sensitive personal data.

Use multi-authentication to login to your accounts, make changes to all passwords using STRONG passwords, freeze all three credit reports, use Chexsystems (do not forget your password and keep in a safe place), beware of new AI scamming techniques, do not enter your SS# with online forms. A little paranoia will improve your security.

To add to this: Password LENGTH is the most important metric. Numbers, special characters and all that jazz don't really mean anything. It's all about entropy and exponential growth. So say you have 2 passwords...

1. Password #1 is 10 characters long, but has some numbers and maybe some special characters in it. The alphabet is 52 characters (lower and upper case), 0-9 add another 10 exponents and maybe a handful of commonly used special characters (!@#$%^&*-_) for another 10. Meaning the password has a "strength" of 10^72 or...

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 possibilities.

2. Password #2 is 32 characters long, but only contains letters. Nothing else, that's it. So it has a "strength" of 32^52 or...

1,852,673,427,797,059,126,777,135,760,139,006,525,652,319,754,650,249,024,631,321,344,126,610,074,238,976 possibilities.

Which may not seem like a lot, but those 6 digits make a HUGE difference in terms computational time brute forcing passwords and whatnot. It's also super easy to remember multiple of them, because you can use song lyrics, speeches, you name it. Unlike "random" passwords most people can only remember a handful of.
