My comment: The bad news: even the big and reputable cheat. The good news: They ain't getting away with it.
 
Yeah..... except, the little guy serves jail time or gets a fine that REALLY hurts them...

VW makes billions a year.... supposedly... so, what will be the fine? A few hundred thousand? A few million? A company has NEVER served jail time yet... for obvious reasons.
 
I have several queries that puzzle me:

• If other manufacturers can make their cars clean, why couldn’t VW with all its experience and resources?
• How could such a big and reputable company resort to dirty practices?
• How could VW hope the dirty trick on such a scale wouldn’t be discovered?
• How come it took so long to discover the deceit?
• Why don’t all countries ban the sale of the affected models that break the law?
 
1) Who says they can make them clean? They just have not been caught yet. It also depends on where you buy diesel ... Libyan oil makes for smoky diesel...
2) Who says they are the only ones? Defamation laws prevents people speaking out TILL they can confirm the evidence.... just wait...
3) maybe they didn't think much of it... just another tool that they thought others used as well....
4) Defamation laws... simple... and also, given VW was a reputable company.... they were trusted...
5) that would be unfair to those that purchased the car in good faith... VW may well have to buy back these cars for the amount paid, plus compensation... it could be in the billions...

and in the scale of things.... trucks blow way more black smoke than VW's ... so.... nations won't be too eager to make an example of VW...
 
It seems there's no end of trouble for VW. I've just heard on German TV news that even some petrol engines have a defect that causes excessive oil consumption and need repair.

It seems this make has taken a turn for the worse and ran into trouble. Its reputation is going downhill, in almost freewheel fashion, while repairs will be an uphill task. So it’s best to steer clear of it while it’s riding on a bumpy road.
 
I have it on good authority that Volkswagen have been working furiously to rectify their emissions problem.
This new model should be in the dealers’ showrooms soon.

Toyota has their own problems, massive recall.... but no big deal in the media....
 
Probably the difference between Toyota and VW is that the first unwittingly failed in quality control whereas the second cheated on purpose.

Also USA have something against Germany for loudly reacting to their NSA spying and now they can get their own back. NIGYSOB like.And those who don't know what the acronym means, google it (or ask me).
 
Yet things got mixed up on the stock market. VW suddenly announced that the number of affected cars is far lower than initially estimated, with corresponding reduction in costs for recalls etc. So their shares went up and those who bought on the low are now showing a handsome profit. But of course this is not the end of the story and anything could happen next.
 
I don't care. I own one. The mileage is awesome and it starts everyday..

P.S. Most companies are doing the same thing but haven't been caught yet on how their doing it..
 
kmartshopper above is mostly right. As a car owner, I'm not so interested in the effects on others but I am interested in the effects hat other people's cars have on me.
 
VW bosses earn multi-millions

He quit his job as head of Volkswagen in September 2015 after the company was found to have cheated pollution tests on a mass scale. But Martin Winterkorn continued picking up his multi-million euro salary till the end of 2016, till expiry of his contract.

In 2014 he got 16 M Euros.

Despite the company losing billions, and the exhaust emissions scandal, the members of the Volkswagen Executive Board pocketed more money in 2015 than in the previous year. The nine members of the board received €63.2 million collectively, up from the €54 million they were paid in 2014.

I have to comment on this :: I love my GTI and won't give it up thou not effected by the scandal, VW still produces good safe automobile -

and thats the way I am -
