Twitter set for volatile debut after IPO raises at least $1.8 billion

(Reuters) - Twitter Inc could face volatile trade in its debut Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange, analysts said, but they remained enthusiastic after the money-losing social media company priced its IPO above the expected range.

The microblogging network priced 70 million shares at $26 on Wednesday evening, above the targeted range of $23 to $25, which had been raised once before. The IPO values Twitter at $14.1 billion, with the potential to reach $14.4 billion if underwriters exercise an over-allotment option.

I say it opens at $29 pops to a $35 and closes at $21 :whistling:

...it lost $65 million in its most recent quarter and questions remain about long-term prospects….Twitter, as a company with no expectations of making profits for several years…
Reading that, at first I thought it’s a rather unsuitable moment for an IPO but then I realized that waiting would be worse.

I can only see pure speculators buying the stock with a view to selling it soon for a quick profit and get out of it. The so-called F&R tactic.

Serious long term or institutional investors wouldn’t want to have to do anything with it. And if I were in the USA, I wouldn’t either.

Institutions are going to be the one's that get first pick at the IPO price $35

CNBC is reporting when it opens here shortly for retail trading the price will be $46

Well, those who applied the F&R tactic by selling early on made a handsome profit. That was expected.

But what surprises me is that (long term) institutional investors appear to have shown interest. Now, can someone explain to me why a serious investor would want to buy and keep shares in a company that loses money and is expected to continue to do so in (at least) the near future, while the long term prospects of such enterprises in a volatile environment is uncertain?

Those that bought at $35 and sold half at $45 made $10 per share. Holding the the balance at $40, they will earn Dividends over the course of the company. They hope to earn more than might lose when the stock drops. They will sell at or around their purchase price. They will take deductions of any lose to reduce taxes on earnings.

'Bout right Kirk?

First, no one got it at $35 except the institutions which got first grab at it before it went public. By the time they were done and released for public trading the price was $45 and the best time to have sold was 5 minutes later it went to $50 and its been down hill ever since.

Facebook all over; closed today at $41.65 :lotpot:

Now why would anyone want to buy in a company that's losing money? Because they believe the potential is there over the long term for it to turn profitable and the stock price go up. I guess look at facebook, it took a year for it to recover to the price of the IPO in opened at but I wouldn't touch FB then and I wouldn't touch it now either; especially with a gap below the market Facebook has, its a long way down to that gap.

But back to twitter, there is no source of revenue so WTF :whistling:
That is still eluding me so how can it become profitable.

3D printing on the other hand, there's a gold mine and while I'm asleep my gold just keeps growing
