WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook have all gone down in a major outage.

The three apps – which are all owned by Facebook, and run on shared infrastructure – all completely stopped working shortly before 5pm. Other products that are part of the same family of apps, such as Facebook Workplace, also stopped working.

Visitors to the Facebook website simply saw an error page or a message that their browser could not connect. The WhatsApp and Instagram apps continued to work, but did not show new content, including any messages sent or received during the problems.



Facebook’s outages happen relatively rarely but tend to be vast in their impact, not least because they affect three of the world’s biggest apps.

The company is often cryptic about the causes of any issues, and does not tend to explain them even after they are fixed. In 2019, for instance, it suffered its biggest outage in years – and said only that it had “triggered an issue” during “routine maintenance operations”.

oh no what am I to do....this is more likely a self manufactured issue so that they could install more intrusive software across the whole platform. Its going to be divisive driven "fact finding" discriminating harmful software yet. Why shouldn't they.....everyone went out and bought W10 despite being warned about the keylogger, malware, spyware that Microsoft installed into it. You had to be nuts.....until at least a decent software came out to get rid of it for you.

While the glitches affected a number of popular social media platforms – among them Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram and SnapChat – other more significant institutions also faced major tech issues on Monday, such as Bank of America, Southwest Airlines, the professional networking site LinkedIn and the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, all according to outage tracker DownDetector.

Something I've been hearing about lately is there is the ability for someone to come in through one of your established FB contacts and say what they want as that person. Someone I actually know had an old aunt as a contact and what she was saying was totally different than usual and then came "How she made some money really easy and a LIVE LINK was included. That's when they knew it wasn't really her and their was nobody at the aunt's place that would be on "her" computer. With a little asking around MULTIPLE people who had that aunt as a contact also had the same rubbish happen, right down to the "AUNT" getting snippy about clicking that link. "HAVE YOU THE CHECKED IT YET?" And level of English was not that great.
Facebook was also down again today briefly apparently. They should get that garbage off the NET. Just had the feeling the EAST is going to take advantage of the FB Sheep.

If you look at the Russian Propaganda website, they have switched to accepting FB, etc to login to comment,
These are types of social media RT condemned as GARBAGE, suddenly a big revamp to using them.

I don't really like farcebook but its how I keep in contact with everyone....rellies that are too far away, friends from school and other friends I've picked up on the way. Its definitely cheaper than ringing people if I want to talk to them......especially if they live a couple of thousand miles away lol

Used it briefly, ended up with too many bimbos from my past wanting to be added as "friends"and to get together for a "coffee" and it p*ssed the old lady off so got rid of it.:angelic:

It's does have it's benefits like you mentioned but otherwise it has no benefit to be honest. More importantly, Zuckie doesn't care your private life is on display to the whole world all in a bid to get paid millions

My settings are for friends only....I don't advertise myself on the internet. I am choosy over friends and it takes a while to trust anyone. What I don't agree with, is this new community standards bs, if I want to express myself by swearing, I should be allowed to, I am after all an adult. So, I've had a few days here and there banned because of my forthright behaviour and it doesn't matter if I have mental health issues, so can't even use that one despite the fact that my mental health issues cause me to express my views in ways that the farcebook police do not like. I still haven't signed the new agreement with whatsapp, the reason being all our information and data was shifted to the US where their data protection isn't worth shite. So, now we are advert feed for even more companies....so I won't sign it. My private information is for me only not for others to sell
 
Some smart choices there. Yeah standards have sure changed and over the top at time same time. At the end of the day you should be to do and say whatever you want within reason of course but these days you can't say boo without not offending someone. So I just tune out of that completely and keep some form of privacy at the same time.
