Ranks? What ranks?

I've noticed users on this site sporting a VIP or whatever rank. Where do I buy a rank, or are ranks "earned"?

If ranks are actually earned, this is the first site that I've seen do that.

Ranks are earned here at DW. You earn them by being an active member and contributing to the board (forums). Also by respecting all the rules on the site.

If you are only an occasional downloader then rank doesn't mean anything really......it only becomes important if a member of staff PMs. Its important if you upload and post because it means you are more trusted with your uploads than someone that has just started. Albeit peoples uploading privileges will be removed if they break the forum rules or the request rules
