At CES 2014 today, Intel (the current owners) CEO Brian Krzanich announced the McAfee brand name will be phased out and replaced by “Intel Security,”. The rebranding will begin immediately, but the transition will take up to a year before it is complete.

Intel’s security products won’t be getting a completely new logo, just a new brand name. The red shield, which Intel says represents “the core values of security and protection” will remain.

John McAfee, founder and previous owner, told the BBC he is thrilled with the name change: “I am now everlastingly grateful to Intel for freeing me from this terrible association with the worst software on the planet. These are not my words, but the words of millions of irate users. My elation at Intel’s decision is beyond words.”

Truth is, I never had a high opinion of this antivirus, and am surprised it was bought by Intel at a premium.

My ISP gives me free McAfee Antivirus but I don't use it because it automatically deletes anything it "thinks" is a virus without giving me a choice - maybe Intel will make some good changes.

they can change to intel all they want. Won't change the fact that McAfee is still crap and probably should be named McCrapfee

lol ch3v.....you wrote what I would have...

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" (William Shakespeare)

The quote would also apply to items, and smells, other than roses.

What they should change is the product, not the name...OK, as a compromise they can change both, but starting from the product.
