Counting my blessings this afternoon that I can still be here among you all to joke and have fun with

So what started this was a tree
A tree we set out no higher then your ankle many years back that was supposed to be a pecan tree finally had nuts this year and guess what? IT'S A DAM WALNUT!!! :banghead:

Out comes the chainsaw

So while I have the chainsaw out the only thing that's kept me from cutting this huge ass limb from overtop of the garden has been this "pecan tree" as cutting this limb would demolish the little tree in its path.

Out comes the 20 foot ladder, up the ladder I go and cuts limb

Think you all see now where this is going so I get the limb cut, it drops to the ground but still attached to the tree and the smart thing to do at this point would be to cut up what's on the ground and remove the weight which would then allow me to cut the rest of the branch off and just let it drop, I would had avoided this fall.

I keep cutting "Stupid ass me" and when it broke lose from the tree it slapped me in the face, off the ladder I flew with the chainsaw that went flying and me down overtop of a fence with barb wire overtop.

I'm ok, a few cuts and bruises but could had been a lot worse, the ladder got it worse than I did but none the less I owe the man upstairs a prayer.

Give you an idea how high

And what I landed on that broke my fall
I bounced like a ball believe it or not, my side is still a bit bruised up but my right leg got the worst of it.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled nonsense. :mrgreen:

Anyway how can you not know the dif between a pecan and a walnut tree?

Oh its a one person job, nothing needed help with. My mistake was not coming down off the ladder, cut up what was down on the ground so all that would had been left was the tree branch hanging this way, no weight on the branch it wouldn't have rolled in the direction of all the weight that was on it.

No weight, it would have just fell to the ground.

Again, stupid me.
Ladder I'm not worried about it can be replaced, I can't.

Chainsaw, few broke parts I can replace myself.

Well, I don't see what's wrong with a walnut tree. I like all tress and I'm against cutting them down. So I hope/understand you only cut a branch of it. As for cutting a branch, whatever you did wrong,at least you were not sitting on the branch you were cutting.

I have a walnut tree
90 feet high in fact and I have enough of them to pick up :gun:

Same goes for the hickory, (Hickory nuts) this branch extended out over the yard and all the way to the garden so I wanted it gone for years.

I wouldn't cut it due to the "pecan tree" would have been in the way.

I thought the so so pecan was a walnut for years, but what yu gonna do with women yu know :lotpot:
She said it was a pecan so had to wait till it bared fruit and say lady does this look like a freakin pecan?



I'm counting my blessings all,
What can I say I never thought landing ontop of barb wire would be something you would say "saved my life" but it did, it broke my fall as you can see from the pic and I sprung up off it like a bouncing ball then landed on my ass.

But seriously
another 3 or 4 feet back almost out of the frame of the pic above is a fence stake
You can see it in the bottom left corner, last pic
I could have landed on top of it and been a horror movie

Still, think about it and see that branch coming at me and I jump and get chills thinking about it, wasn't no fun feeling

I'm in one piece
nothing even broken
I'm thankful

Being able to 'see' mistakes before they happen is a good part of planning.
Remember that 'Perfect planning prevents piss-poor performance'

Either way being OCD about jobs like this could have helped from the 'attack of the tree branch and it's quick descent as well as yours'.
A Husqvarna is a dangerous chainsaw why do you think horror movies use them buddy?

I don't have a Husqvarna
Not that much use anymore for a chainsaw so my McCulloch was all I needed.
Now, calling around for parts I'm finding for a 5 year old chainsaw are no where to be found anymore due to how many times the company has been sold and resold :hmmm:


But yea, I thought I had planned ahead, how hard could it be cutting a dam limb?
When it hit me I woke up, yep should have stepped back after the limb fell and re examined the picture I would have seen a lot before I finished that cut.

A bit sore, bruised more less they are really showing up now from head to toe

The Chainsaw had a $41 hospital bill, it didn't par as well as I did
