Let’s be frank. The warez scene isn’t what it used to be and will probably never become that again. Many warez boards have closed, and while some new ones have (re)opened, they don’t attract the participation they had in their prime.

Partly to blame for this are the file hosts, which also aren’t what they used to be. This is largely due to fear of legal action against them after the MU event, which still hasn’t clarified. But if, and it’s a big if, Kim Dotcom wins the case, we may see file hosts springing back.

But I believe that the problem is unfortunately more deep-rooted than that. And I bring the following arguments in support:

• Though the MU events certainly precipitated the decline, I saw it starting before then, e.g. by the closure for the second time of the legendary ProjectW. And DirtyWarez was having serious problems managing junk, constant blackouts, financing and legal issues.

• The problem is general and not limited to warez boards. All kinds of boards unrelated to file hosts are having a bad time, including a computer help board where I’m an advisor.

• In fact, there are still many usable file hosts and much material that can be downloaded from them. But people don’t seem as interested as they used to be.

• Old DirtyWarez members have joined other warez boards, but they don’t interact and participate in discussions as the used to when they were at DirtyWarez.

So, the question arises, what are the deeper causes of the situation, apart from file hosts? I see the answer in:
• Changing habits and people losing the initial enthusiasm.
• Social networks, where people now prefer to socialize rather than on traditional boards.
• Possibly by now most have acquired the apps they needed and stopped seeking new ones.
• Financial and legal aspects, the latter have become a real threat. Also finding good staff that will lead the community and keep the boards clean from junk.

But enough from me. What do YOU think?

• Old DirtyWarez members have joined other warez boards, but they don’t interact and participate in discussions as the used to when they were at DirtyWarez.

I think with regard to this one...old members still needed their "fix" and being as Dirtywarez wasn't around, they did what anyone else would do and find a new "dealer". A lot of us were still members at other forums, a lot of us have been busy with personal stuff too which will obviously mean that we haven't been around as much. I'm one of these people, I have had problems for a while and they were only added to after I was driven into, the dog being ill and my landlord not paying the mortgage as he should have done.

I'm not sure warez is suffering as much as the FBI and the MPAA would expect it to..yes MU died but its back, yes RS screwed around with a lot of members by changing their filehosting ethos, FS and Filesonic both ran scared because of these more filehosts have popped up giving for a wider range of downloading possibilities. Like everything in this world when there is a flood of one particular business, they all seem less busy. However, saying that, the new DirtyWarez has only just started again really and incomparison to what it was like before, we would have to wait several yrs before any real true reasoning can be made.

I don't seem to spend much time on any one particular forum because of personal issues with health as you are aware..I've also been a little busy with sorting out peoples computers/laptops/cars and other stuff that needs fixing. I must say though, when Dirtywarez closed albeit quite briefly, I was pretty lost, I was also very deflated after working my way up to Resolver Team Leader and an Elite Mod, just for it to be taken away from me in a blink of an eye

warez have seen it.s best days i think, for games soon you don't have even a dvd anymore, some games require a internet connection or you don't play at all
others have to be downloaded in order to play, most hacked games (the cracks) often seen by virus scanner as trojans and other viruses,
and even if they not included are you taking the risk to be hacked? me not

There is already talk about next gen gaming consoles not having disks and users will just download games onto their consoles - things are certainly changing.

I predict that in our near future they are going to find a way to make illegal downloading much harder to do, many countries will band together and form an alliance and pass laws that will allow for the immediate shut down and arrest of anyone operating a file host that is used for illegal downloading in that country- the claim that "oh we just allow people to upload what they want, we have no control over whats uploaded" is an excuse thats not gonna work for long because everyone knows what these file hosts are used for. the same could apply to forums like this one, if hosts of warez sites were suddenly looking at going to jail for hosting a warez board, then nobody would host one anymore.

May have to go back to the old ways - and send files back and forth via IMs.

And now we have 3D printing - they fill the tub with plastic pellets and it heats them up and makes objects with a tiny spray nozzle - I think in the future there will be 2 tubs, one for plastic pellets and one for metal pellets - they just have to design a spray nozzle that can melt metal as well as plastic and then ya can make your own guns, parts for your car like a distributor cap and stuff like that.

Think I made reference to it in the 3D Printer thread I started.

We will be downloading templates to print the chip on which a movie, software or music would be
