Catalytic Colnverter Question

Why can't catalytic converters be enclosed inside the vehicle somewhere so they're inaccessible to theives?
There was a local article on the News a few weeks ago, cops raided a place in the city and found over $1.5 Million dollars worth of stolen catalytic converters.
Why did every thief in the city know where to take these things, yet the cops didn't raid the place until there was that many and I imagine piles of them had already been processed??? Catalytic converter theft doesn't seem to be much of a priority for cops.

Due to rampant inflation, $1.5M worth of converters can be hidden under a single bed...

wish someone would steal my Catholic converter.
Mine is restricted & causing high exhaust Gas temperatures (a No No for diesels), so it would save me having to cut it out.

Woman accidentally runs over and kills would-be thief trying to steal her catalytic converter.

Democrats have complete power in the Colorado legislature. They squashed the bill because "a Republican" wrote it.

HB-1038 CONCERNING THE REPLACEMENT OF A CATALYTIC CONVERTER THAT HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM A MOTOR VEHICLE. It would make it more possible and economical to replace a stolen catalytic converter. Lost in first committee, PLV (Party Line Vote).

The best solution will be to stop installing cat converters and exhausts and user an afterburner arrangement to burn off unwanted gases. Earmuffs may also be required...

Something like an "afterburner" is installed in newer semi tractor/trailers..

They have a separate tank for the "afterburner" fuel.

Since cats don't work very well in diesel engines..

The "afterburner" cooks the exhaust gases at a extreme high temp. And cleans the exhaust....

That is all it does, doesn't help with power or fuel mileage.. Just emissions

A engine that runs on LP or natural gas , lasts a lot longer because the fuel are already gases.

No contaminate of engine oil, less oil breakdown. Cleaner engine. Less wear.

Like engines that run on unleaded gas, they need to have harden valve seat and valves.

About the removal of cats ..... ( A dog might chase it away..Sorry couldn't help myself :laff::laff: )

.And subbing a "test pipe" replacement...

It can work but depends on where your O2 sensor is..

If after the cat, your engine won't run good...

If before the cat , it should work in theory.

Many cars have multi O2 sensors, not just one.

The only thing with unleaded now is that it affects the ignition coil. Just like the old 4* petrol, when it was switched over to unleaded engines needed extra lubricant added to the fuel so that it would burn out the engine parts, particularly the valves. They don't need harden seats or valves just bung some additive in the full tank of petrol each time and the engine would be fine. Now they have changed it so that there is more ethanol in the petrol which is causing problems with ignition coils, despite manufacturers saying its fine to use in the "newer" cars when in fact its not. I've had my car a year and a bit and I have had to replace 2 ignition coils, both the same end. That can only be from the fuel, there are no error messages nothing.

Hmmm ... I've been using E85 for 9 [char]frac12[/char] years now in the same car with no problems at all.

It is probability you ignition module that are burning up the coil.
I've seen many modules that check OK on the tester , but are bad.
Or have a bad ground in the circuit. Or incorrectly or worn gap in spark plugs.
I would run a ground wire from the engine to the body. And inspect your battery cables too.
---------------------------
It it true, you can run unleaded fuel with lubricant in an engine built for leaded fuel.
You can use a lead substitute or even ash-less 2 cycle oil .
But all engine that was made for unleaded have hardened seats and valves.
The exotic engines even have filled valves..
--------------------------------------
When they first came out with ethanol in fuel....
Lots of problems...Had to rebuild many carburetors, they had those cheap
plastic floats .
The ethanol would just eat them up. Yummy plastic
I would replace them with brass ones .
And put in an extra fuel filter before the carburetor.
So all the junk in the tank doesn't get thru. Because ethanol cleans the gas tank too.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
But we have got away from the topic of cats...Meow..Purr (sorry couldn't help myself)

Ethanol, also likes to eat through rubber. I had to replace my High Pressure Fuel Pump in the engine bay because it destroyed the rubber gaskets.

I recently purchased an exhaust pipe cutter to replace the pipe on my car, it cost me just over $100Au and while I haven't used it yet I loaned it to a friend so he could cut the pipe on his race car and do some work. He said it made the job so easy, it's basically a chain with numerous cutting wheels like a pipe cutter has and he said he spun it around once and the cutting was done.
I'd hate to see how easy it would make it for these a-holes who steal catalytic convertors.

As far as I know CC theft hasn't been as big in Aus but it may be hitting in major cities after I read some stories about people parked in car parks all day while they worked in the office to come out and find the CC's were gone.
The strangest thing is most enclosed car parks in most Aussie city centres have cameras, surely they could identify the maggots who are stealing these things and put a bullet between their eyes?

All that they would need is a battery powered Sawzall . They don't care if it is a straight cut.

On a truck , they can just slide under. But on a car, they might have jack it up.

There we go , make a Tilt circuit with a mercury switch, relay or power transistor to a alarm..

Could be one of those talking alarm. Have it say "Get the *** away from my car."

With a siren too..Flashing lights .. Have a cell phone call the cops....

It is a low priority for cops in this city, they seem omly interested in the odd Headline making bust of a place getting caught with Millions of dollars worth of them. meanwhile theft victims go through a huge hassle with Insurance. (if they're covered) it must be replaced or you're looking at a fine.

Nah, make it easier on the cops and the courts, electrocute the feckers. Oops.

A Top Gear show episode showed a car in south africa that had flame throwers on the sides of the car lol...Now that is one hell of a anti theft device lol

How about the Cops get off their asses and notify districts in the city or community centres or the News when there are dozens of reports of these thieves stealing Converters in an area so people can at least have the option of keeping an extra eye out for activity or make parking arrangements??? But NO!!! COPS KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT! And you don't find out there has been lots of converter thefts in the area until after you have one stolen and have to deal with an Insurance Company.

Every converter thief in the city seems to know where to take the stolen converters and can run around in area and STEAL LOTS from a single area because no authorities say anything or release any information when it's happening.

Thieves and buyers have a better communication going than the cops!!!!
