News out of San Francisco is that hackers are using Microsoft's offer of a free upgrade to Windows 10 to send out spam emails with malware attached. Security researchers are warning about a wave of bogus spam emails with malicious attachments, labeled as if they're legitimate copies of the new program.
The malware that is attached to the email is in fact ransomware that when opened will lock your computer and demand a ransom.
Cisco Systems researchers say the emails are designed to look like they come from Microsoft, but contain several words that have random, out-of-place letters and punctuation.
The main clue that it is malicious is that Microsoft delivers the upgrade with a notice on their screens, not through an email. Experts warn against clicking on files that come with unsolicited emails.
