VPNs are not to be trusted generally. There's no guarantee they're not monitoring your surfing and informing authorities. And authorities themselves suspect VPN users and find ways to unmask and watch them.

If you use a free vpn then I will agree with you, but if you use a paid vpn service, like I do, then it's a lot harder to get caught.
Your ISP will not even know that you connected to a vpn service, since it leaves no trace, just a connection to a server ( a vpn server in country you select) and then nothing.
What you do inside is not visable to the ISP, unless they break into the vpn server and without a court order, not so easy.

I know for a fact that the vpn service I use is safe, because I know the principals involved.

I don't use a VPN at all... I just run a program called Peerblock (free) and I have never gotten a notice from my ISP about anything I have downloaded.. in how many years? wow how long has it been since I met some guy in a liquor store who told me about forumW and I joined... and that led me to bayW and to here..... how time flies....

Ahh, not getting caught and not being marked on a list, are two different things. Getting caught is easy, but what is the end game of the watcher, mostly a note in some NSA datafile.
Using a Vpn will take you off the list, but if the NSA wants you, they gotta make a formal request from some ISP, but if you don't exist, then they have to ask the vpn server....some of them will tell them to stuff it, like the vpn service I use...its ur life.

OK Guys, I have d/l in excess of 8 Terabytes over the years. Never got a notice from anybody, not ever. The only time I use a torrent is if I absolutely cannot find something on a file host somewhere. When I do use a torrent, I never actually download from them. I copy either the torrent or the magnet link and use real debrid or all debrid to download it from the torrent to their site. Then they upload it to a file host where I then download it from. It's a little circumscribed, but there is no way I'm ever associated with the torrent and I never have to upload at all.

I have no doubt that if "they" want you/me/anyone, "they" will get them. The trick is to stay under the radar and never join a swarm by downloading directly from a torrent.

For last six months I switch from file host to torrents, no problems so far. But I suppose I use a better VPN service.
