Anyone Own A Android TV Box?

I'm looking at purchasing a media streaming device for my TV. Primarily for live TV, like live news channels, live regular TV.

Just curious as to what people are using. I don't want to waste money on useless media streamer.

I'm currently using Apple TV and it kinda sucks for live TV content.

Some ideas would be great and it can be suggestions on any media streaming device as long as it has access to live TV.

I use roku and no complaint here.
Lots of options for free TV and paid stream as well.

I have used a few over the years and currently have a TV stick device with Android 9.
The drawback about these devices are that you never know how well the compatibility is with various apps.

You can set various parameters in the Android SDK when compiling, so that the compiled APK will only work on certain devices.
Even the Play Store can limit which devices, you can download specific apps to. Even if the device is more than capable of running it.

The quality of the TV sticks or boxes also vary greatly, as they are usually Chinese junk, with a few solid ones in the midst of it.
The current stick I have is very good, with superb compatibility and also a working firmware update system.
But I have had devices that were become gradually useless within a single year, due to the dropped app support.

I cannot speak for Roku, as I never tried it, but it may as well be a better long term solution, than going into the Android TV market.
Unless of course, that you are skillful in firmware ROM creation, and can modify or create a new better firmware for the hardware you buy.

I would rather suggest a mini PC like Raspberry Pi or even an Intel NUC for the purpose. Sure it is a little more expensive, and may also require mouse and keyboard for the better part, but at least you can keep updating it.
Alternatively you can go with the Roku devices, but I will leave advisory on those to someone else.

I have been using regular and a 4K Fire Sticks for quite a long time. Basically, the Fire Stick's even though they are Amazon's they have a similar Android type platform which you can side load the Fire Stick or Fire TV with a good IPTV service app (APK) along with one of the top IPTV provider's you will be able to receive just about EVERY TV program premium and PPV's out there and this is without exaggeration. If you have never seen or been told what is available, for the cost of the subscription to what you will be receiving I will just say it is unbelievable. Without elaborating here or posting links If you or anyone else want's more details just message me privately I will be happy to provide you or anyone else with the specific detail's.
 
Just going to put it out there. Nvidia shield hands down the best. Dont waste money on any of the others especially roku since they locked out developer stuff to normal people. Nvidia upscales all your content to 4k so you dont have to waste space in your library on 4k files.
 
Got a Fire Stick and with the help and info from a member here I now have 11,000 live channels LOL Thank you all!
 
Also run IPTV on a Firestick 4k (TiviMate - the best IPTV client), looked at many of them and IMO nothing even comes close to it, superb IPTV client.

Have you disabled the junk on Firestick, some of the useless stuff that runs in the background? Firestick 4k is nippy but these few tweaks are worth it IMO.

Will grab a few screens of TiviMate, bare with me.

Edit: Few screenshots of TiviMate IPTV client, reduced them to 1280x720 for posting. Note, this is TiviMate v2.1.5 - the last cracked one that fully works, there are newer versions, but I believe cracked ones all fail and after a while the TV guide clears itself. Great IPTV client, SmartPlayer was okay but TiviMate is in a class of it's own.

Are you familiar with OnBootAppStarter and AppStarter for Firestick 4k? Allow you to boot straight past the Amazon home screen to your own home screen and your installed apps. As mine is purely for media, IPTV, NAS streamer etc I set it up with just media stuff, AppStarter lets you apply your own wallpapers too.

I was using the Smarters app. I have moved over to the Tivimate app. Yes it way better. Loving this IPTV service. I would have cancelled my satillite long ago if had og known about this service.

the premium tivi mate app with any android bx is the way to go, I use a buzz box and minux box with a .apk file loaded to them and its just great. Paid interent is all you need today to watch anything you want
 
I don't use them, all the stuff I watch is from abroad anyone....mainly Australian and US and they are posted next day. The news is biased, political agendas underlie everything, etc etc etc

I already have a subscription to another service, but didn't know whether the cracked version offered anything more.
To be honest, I don't make full use of it, as I am not that much of a sports fan (which is what most are geared up for primarily), more sci-fi.
