Hi all, this is my first thread I'm doing so I hope everything is fine. I like playing video games of all sorts and I need to talk about the current state of FPS online games. I feel like the triple A studios just don't deliver anymore. Call of Duty is just trash. Battlefield could have been a great game but they messed it up bad. Tried too hard to be a new Warzone and lost what makes Battlefield a great game. Counter Strike is a great tactical shooter but there is no innovation there. CS2 feels just like the same game. The only games I like are Apex and Valorant. And even those two aren't perfect. Never played Tarkov so I can't talk about that. I don't know but I feel the current FPS online games are just not that great. There is nothing new or groundbreaking anymore every new version feels like a copy.

I don't know but I miss the feeling when I first played Halo online back in the day or Titanfall. Hell, even when Fortnite first came out it was fun because it was new. I hope the big studios will drop some new exciting games. I'm looking forward to the new Bungie game. It looks interesting and I really hope it will fill that void.

What do you think? Are you happy with the current online shooters?

Great first post shaihulud.
Sorry but I cant add to your subject as I am not a gamer.
Just wanted to say "Well Done"
Have fun.

Gaming is like films.....every now and again they lose sight of what they were supposed to be doing and it ends up looking and feeling like a re-hash of a previous game. This is nothing new, I've seen it happen time and time again. There hasn't been any decent new games for ages...guess their imaginations have run dry. I've all sorts of games and have yet to complete most of them, sometimes its life in general, sometimes its because of mental wellbeing.

gotta agree with you,the studio's have lost the plot.i enjoy fps where, the characters look like real people ,crysis, call of duty and the one iv'e been on for ages sniper.completed it multiple times. but until we get something new????

What do you expect? Its business! Studios have not lost the plot. They got sold to new owners who have completely different ideas.

Does anybody really think that the board of directors at EA, Ubisoft, etc have meetings to talk about how good the game is???

Game releases like BG3, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bannerlord. Dwarf Fortress etc. are rare because so much time has to be put into them. How many years of developtment went into them vs another Assassins Creed? People vote with their wallet. And i wouldnt want it any other way honestly. Things will get better.
Battlefield 5 single player campaign was amazing.

I'm glad you mentioned Crysis. I still remember the day I first installed Crysis on my PC (when I still had a good PC ) the graphics were just amazing. I miss this feeling of new.

I know it's a business but how can you as a triple A studio bring out a game like Battlefield 2042 that was unfinished and didn't have a vision. I'm not sure how much time they spend on development but in my opinion the vision wasn't there. They tried to copy Warzone and introduced a weird mode to replicate Tarkov (I think?) and both things flopped. It could have been a great game.

I definitely agree with you about Call of Duty and Counter-Strike. I bought MW 2019 and Cold War and their campaigns are terrible compared to what I played 10+ years ago in the original MW1, MW2, and WaW.

The best CoD campaign I played recently is MW2 remastered. I love Warzone and Zombies, but I bought Cold War for zombies and the zombies mode wasn't that great. Also, MW 2019 is the older game... yet the graphics are better than Cold War?

At least CS2 is free to play. So far I only played Free-for-All mode in CS2, but honestly I prefer CS 1.6 and there are a lot of servers/players on 1.6 (you can probably find a cracked copy and play online, I think a lot of servers accept non-steam players).

There's still a lot of great older games out there that you can play online, they just require some effort to track down and set up. Canek77 makes a lot of repacks that have multiplayer functions built-in, usually just need to translate the FAQ for information about changing the language and playing online.

I am more interested in older games at this point because it seems to be true that most newer FPS are not that great.

I play 3 Opensource shooters with no anti-cheat at all and we have no hacker problems, obviously the mentally disabled individuals who enjoy hacking clearly haven't found interest in these games yet or don't have a website to download someone elses scripts but the fact is anti cheat is not required. Also on Gnu/Linux Anticheats/rootkits/spyware are a pain.

Natively I can't play a lot of competitive online multiplayer because of rootkits/spyware known as anti-cheat also known for creating security vulnerabilities within ring 0.

I use Gnu/Linux and in order to play Rainbow 6 Siege, Tarkov or Valaront I used to use a gaming virtual machine and used Nested Virtualization to accomplish a near perfect sandbox for these games. Now, while I am an average Gnu/Linux gamer playing regularly. These same virtual machines allow any filthy cheater to completely mitigate detection measures. While the most commonly used to tricks of virtualization are slowly being detected I - a regular Linux Gamer who just wanted to be included can still play all these games issue free.

So sure the solution is better anti-cheat? F No. No more spyware - Do it like South-Korea, make cheating illegal and require your ID. Only way to remove the vulnerabilities created in Windows from these "Ant-cheats" . For me Multiplayer FPS Games leave a bitter taste in my mouth other than the opensource games I play Xenotic and Cube 1 and Cube2: Sauerbraten

I just noticed that this topic was about PVP - my fault for complaining about campaign/ zombie modes 😅

One thing that I forgot to mention is that I do enjoy Warzone 2, but the mode selection is poor. They had an event for Halloween which had two modes that I liked to play so at least I had 2 options, but right now there's only one mode / map that I like, so it's very repetitive.

Warzone 1 had the same problem, but they had a tiny map (rebirth island) that was so much fun so I didn't really care much when it was the only option. I'm also mad that they got rid of WZ1, it had a different feel compared to WZ2 and I would love to go back and play it again. There's currently an unofficial way to play an old build online via LAN tunneling, but it is very rough - you must be within 500m (in-game) to the host, otherwise you fall through the map.

Also wanted to mention that Halo Infinite is actually decent - it is free to play and it is reasonably fun, especially if you play with friends. If I play by myself I usually get tired of it quickly, though. It's worth keeping for a match every once in a while.

Do it like South-Korea, make cheating illegal and require your ID.

Wow I did not know that was how it works in South Korea. As much as I would hate having to submit my ID to every game company, if it works I would be OK with it. Cheating ruins some games, luckily have not seen it much in Warzone 2 recently.

I used to enjoy a bit of the 'ol in out/ in out pvp fps. Mostly counterstrike and some battlefield, a bit of warzone and *er fortnite more recently. The cheating kinda ruined it, playing console with crossplay off seems to improve the experience. Feels a bit like games in general peaked around ps2end/ps3start era, plateaued ps4 and kinda coming off the slope now.

That's not to say there's nothing good coming out, but feels like refined versions of what cam before. RE4 felt fresh (2005). Ragnarok (2022) which has somewhat similar style of game play was enjoyable but not exactly innovative. Pretty much every game is a fps/3ps with RPG elements now. Open a mame emulator & see how many different genres there were just for arcade.

Anyway pretty much all media is designed by commitee for the sweet filthy lucre, and as bland and inoffensive as possible not to upset any potential customers & you know psyops sooo... Until that equation changes here we are.

I recommend the game The Finals, it is free to play and cross platform. It is a fast paced cell shaded shooter, kind of reminds me of Team Fortress 2 except a different objective (retrieve a cash vault, bring cash vault to deposit location, defend location for a set amount of time to prevent someone from stealing it). You play on teams of 3 players, against 2 or 3 other teams (there is a free for all mode, but with a different objective).

It would be nice if they added more game modes but it is still fun to boot up once in a while and play a few matches. It will take some games to learn how to play but if you stick to it and enjoy the challenge, it is fun.
