In a bulk standard car I have gone 140mph, twice the legal limit on a motorway....yes The_Droid is a maniac, as if you didn't know that in the first place (those that know me)

That is a 1965 A/C Cobra
Purchased new and still owned

Equipped with:
- Ford 289 Cubic Inch Engine, with 4 48 IDA-Weber downdraft carburetors, and roller tappets

- unlike it's big brother "the 427" it does not have side pipes but does have dual a 2½ exhaust system out the back

- also unlike it's big brother "the 427" it does not have a 4 speed top loader, it does however have a 5 speed ZF trans-axle making it a total impossibility to hit the "red line" in either 4th or 5th gear.


While the "427" will go 225+ with RPM to spare, I was clocked by a Oklahoma State Trooper just shy of 185...

120MPH in my '77 Celica GT on the autobahn. 151MPH in my '85 1/2 MR2 (downhill and with a Wyoming tailwind).

In the mid 70's I was attached to a West German CT unit and they had these Yugo bodies attached to these BMV chassies. The speedometer went to 340 KMPD and we routinely hit the 320 mark. (and that was with four of us burly guys loaded with gear in the car).

These days, I stay the speed limit as my eyes are old and the reflexes are slow.

NOTHING! The road I was on had a sign that read "assume a safe speed" aka go as fast as you want, if you feel safe doing so. I have been on a few such roads over the years, at one time that was the "rule of thumb" on the Florida Turnpike", but it only lasted a few years. I was told to pull over into the right hand lane in the middle of the night in North Carolina by a state trooper, he so informed me over his loud speaker, and when I did move over, and was doing around 125, he passed me like I was standing still! I saw him at a rest area, and we joked.. his patrol car was a Dodge with a 426 Hemi!

I have those old eyes as well, and seldom really open the car up, around here. If I did, I would be locked up for sure. Most of the time these days, I drive my 2014 Lincoln MKS (3.7L engine) but have hit around 130 in it a couple of times.
