Maigret is back in English on British TV.

This production of Maigret is a British television series from ITV set in mid-1950s in France, mainly Paris. It is an adaptation of the books by Georges Simenon featuring his French Chief Inspector Jules Maigret, who is played by Rowan Atkinson.

Maigret is not your typical super modern, high action series. It's rather easy going, set in ordinary surroundings and dealing with ordinary people. Some may say that it lacks adrenaline excitement, but I find that it preserves my nerves and peace of mind, so that I can go to sleep after watching it, without being disturbed by cliffhanging situations.

On the negative side of this production, I don't think much of the choice of Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean) to portray the hero. The French (Swiss) production was far more convincing in this respect.

Four Seasons in Havana (Cuatro estaciones en La Habana) (2016 - )

I present this Cuban cop TV series without necessarily recommending it, as it is somewhat different from the usual specimens of the species (especially the British ones) and would thus be a matter of personal taste. But I find it quite OK.

IMDB description: Follow lieutenant Conde as he solves crime, beds beautiful women and navigates the corruption and politics of his Havana police department.

The first season has aired so far, consisting of 4 double episodes of about 90 min duration, shot in Havana, Cuba.

The series is in colloquial Spanish with hard coded English subtitles. But those learning Spanish might better not rely on it, as it doesn't use the best language version, while even those fluent in Spanish may still find some use for the subtitles.

The hero is a rough cop (lieutenant), not averse to smoking, drinking, using strong language, causing trouble and falling for women. But he's dedicated to his work.

And a warning: The series uses some strong language and contains nudity/sex scenes.

One aspect I liked, it provides some interesting insight into the different world of Havana, Cuba.

This is not to recommend the series but rather to warn that it was abandoned by its makers in 2017 after the 3rd season, not only without reaching any conclusion, but actually in the middle of a highly dramatic development with uncertain and ominous outcome. Not for those who like a happy ending, or any ending at that.

As for the plot, it's a futuristic sci-fi space travel story, where the 6 spaceship crew members struggle in risky adventures against unlikely adversaries, while at the same time trying to find out who they really are.

It's probably a sign of the times that the female characters are dominant and usually physically stronger than the males, something not appealing to my masculine chauvinism. But otherwise quite watchable, as far as it goes.

Edgar Wallace was a prolific and best selling English writer of mystery crime stories of the pulp fiction era. More than 160 movies have been made of his work, among which King Kong.

The TV series consists of 47 independent episodes or movies made between 1960 and 1965 and thus in black and white. Different heroes take part in the episodes and the element of mystery is usually present. I have only watched a few of them so far and found them worthwhile, though not always outstanding. I'd say the 7.9/10 rating is representative.

- Braquo : A story of dirty cops
- Engrenages : Realism before all. Interesting show even though i stopped following.

We just finished watching Hunters. Its an Amazon Original. We don't have Prime so I downloaded it. Its really good. We binge watched it really fast. It stars Al Pacino and is about a group of people hunting down Nazi's. Takes place in the 1970's.

My question when we were watching it was,,,How the heck did Amazon get a top notch actor like Al Pacino to do an original streaming series? And how much money did he get? It must have cost Bezos a fortune to pay that guy for the series.
