It's really too bad that everyone doesn't act like an "Old Person"!!!!
1. Old People are easy to spot at sporting events, during the playing of the National Anthem. Old People remove their caps and stand at attention, and sing without embarrassment. They know the words and believe in them.
2. Really Old People remember Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Normandy, Hitler and Hirohito, and they remember the brutally hard times of the Great Depression.
3. They remember when there was nothing but radio. They remember the Berlin Airlift, Harry and Ike, the Atomic Age, the Korean War, the Cold War, "Duck and Cover", and black and white TV (with only 2 or 3 channels). They remember the election of John Kennedy and they remember Vietnam.
4. If you bump into an Old Person on the sidewalk, he or she will apologize. If you pass an Old Person on the street, he or she will always greet you. Old People trust strangers and are courtly to women. They love children and animals. Old people generally have very good manners, a lost art in these times of increasing crudity.
5. Old People hold the door for the next person, and always for a lady.
6. Old People get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they do not like filth or dirty language on TV or in movies.
7. Old People have moral courage and personal integrity. They have an innate sense of right and wrong. They seldom brag unless it's about their children or grandchildren.
8. It's Old People who remove their hats in a restaurant in respect for the ladies and other guests. You will never see an old person wearing a baseball cap backwards or their pants well below the waist!!
9. It's the Old People who know that our great country is protected, not by politicians, not by professional athletes, not by entertainers, but by the young men and women in the military, serving their country, and our police who patrol our streets, day and night!
10. Old People love to reminisce about the old days, "better times", and, trust me, they WERE much better times! This country needs Old People with their work ethic, sense of responsibility, pride in their country, and their decent, traditional values. We need them now more than ever, but there are fewer and fewer of them.
Thank God for Old People.
Pass this on to all the "Old People" you know.
I was taught to respect my elders. It's just getting harder to find them!
