How many wireless networks are near you?

Kirk's topic on screwing with his neighbor got me thinking.
How many wireless networks are near you that you can see? And how many are not secure?

Near me I have 7 plus mine.
They range from 5 bars to 1.
Only 1 is insecure but he uses mac address's to let you have access.
If your not listed in his settings you don't have access.

So how many can you see?

It varies from 5 to 7 or 8 depending on the time of day. I've only seen one unsecured one, but all it had was one bar and not worth my time or trouble. Besides I love my cable.

I have 6 but only 1 is unsecured - but that one just had 3 bars.

I worried about people hacking onto my WiFi so a month ago I noticed that my router puts out 400 Mw - So I wondered.. Do I need 400 Mw? Everything in my house that uses the wireless is within 10 feet or less.. So I lowered it to 100 Mw - and everything still works great - still have 5 bars of signal strength on PC... I could probably go lower then 100... I may test that theory when I am bored.

Depending on the day, 8 to 10 and I'm out in the country. The number has really jumped in the last year too.

By the way new router is back on Amazon for sale, don't work all that great and can't even get my Tivo to connect to it 20 feet away. Had to put my old router back on the network which works fine, don't know why I wanted to upgrade anyhow. Bragging rights that I had 5GHz LOL

I have two... six lines . I have a strong password so I don't worry much about getting hacked. Cheers FB :icecream: :icecream:

Shed loads are near me...all with strong signals :)

A few more showing up here after Christmas day

A whole slew load must have got routers for Christmas you'd think my house was sitting smack dab in the middle of the pentagon

6-8 in the 2.4Ghz range, just me (that i can detect) in the 5Ghz range

Funny thing is all those that I can see are with the Mrs' MacBook.
I can only see my network using the wifi adapter that came with the router on my PC.

I even tried putting the adapter on a USB extension cable and moving it around the room but it made no dif.
Must be the steel frame of the house.

During the weekend some extra 4 or 5 use to show up...
