Battle of the Browsers

The German Consumers mag Warentest in its latest issue Sept 14, published the results of extensive tests on the main (free) browsers. These tests were conducted in conjunction with consumers organizations of other countries, so they’ll also appear in their publications.

Among the parameters compared were:
Speed
Security
Functionality
Compatibility
Ease of use

Without going into individual details, the overall ranking for Windows computers was:

1 Google Chrome v.35
2 Opera v.22
3 Mozilla Firefox v.30
4 Microsoft Internet Explorer v.11
5 Sirrix Browser in the Box v.3.3
6 SRWare Iron v.35
7 Maxthon v.4.4

And for Mac computers:

1 Google Chrome v.35
2 Mozilla Firefox v.30
3 Opera v.22
4 Apple Safari v.7

Noteworthy, though not surprising to the knowledgeable, is that among the “big 4”, the operating systems’ own browsers, namely IE and Safari, came last.

What about the Android market?
This is an oversight as Android devices are almost as valid for browsing the Internet.
I use Dolphin Browser on my Samsung Galaxy.

Ya know, I've found that each and every browser has both its pluses and negatives. So I keep 4 browsers handy because whatever one won't or can't show, another one usually can. I use Pale Moon for most of my browsing, but I switch to Chrome, Firefox, Opera or I.E. as needed (usually Chrome).

Exactly

A lot of things I have to do in IE and can't accomplish in firefox.

Chrome shows ads when I brows Amazon which is crap too.

Try copying text in Chrome or IE from imdb and it won't paste correctly :shrug:

And here, try to insert the quotes or other BBCode in IE is a headache.

And then three’s old cat me still on obsolete version Opera 12.17 and happy with it. It does have occasional site compatibility issues, for which I use Firefox, so I agree with NR.

But with so few people still on old Opera, no hacker will bother about them. Add to that my obsolete XP. The best defense is not to invite an attack in the first place.
