People that sell copyrighted material on etsy?

I see quite a few people on etsy selling copyrighted material these days, Its mad what they charge for a series that is supposedly "rare" to none pirates. But what the buyer don't realize is the content the seller has acquired is more than likely downloaded from a DDL or a torrent and then sold on to the buyer.

I don't understand why people would pay for this, it seems comical. I've saw listings that have been purchased for tv shows and they are charging like £40-50 and some of the supposedly rarer ones like GunSmoke (1955) go for £110.

How risky is it to do this?, Because as we're all pirates together sailing the same ship, I don't understand how etsy allows these sellers to load up cheapo USB sticks and sell them on, Surely it's an easy venture. I was going to give it a go myself just purely because its easy money but don't want it biting me on the back if i get any legal action taken against me.

What are your thoughts on this whole ordeal?
 
Some folks will pay as they are not aware of how to obtain the likes of Gunsmoke, et al for nothing. People make money from the naivety of others in all walks of life. Having said that, the fact that sellers advertise Gunsmoke for £110 does not mean they are actually making sales. However, based on the belief that "one is born every day", they can afford to wait.

Marketplaces such as Etsy start with good intentions and get infiltrated by these folks looking to make easy money. Ultimately, Etsy's owners will be an easy target for litigation unless they are based in a jurisdiction that is out of the reach of (predominantly) US lawyers. Similarly, sellers are exposed if they are using PayPal/credit card payments as law enforcement will be able to easily ID them. Be clear that it is a very risk endeavor selling copyright materials in that type of environment. Many will be young folks seeing it as quick, easy money. The larger the marketplace gets, the sooner it will be targeted by IP owners, their lawyers and law enforcement.
 
Thought it'd be far too risky, I'm already completely suspended off of Paypal (Permanant). My own fault, not too bothered about it but i am a little bit gutted because it's very well used on a lot of sites and it used to be my preferred method of payment. I now try to pay with either card of Crypto.
 
True pirates dont do it for the MONEY.
Never have and I would hope they never will.

What you are seeing are the parasites that swarm in to make a buck.

If you need to make money... Get a Job....

Any easy path is usually paved with problems...
 
If its easy money there is normally a big catch attached to it, I'm not going to lie. It looks very easy considering there are people that daft and actually pay for it. But then again it's probably some young naïve individual or someone old that doesn't know anything about Piracy, Some of them genuinely believe they're receiving a totally legitimate service i could imagine lol

There is nothing as easy money.
If there were, we would all be rich.

I would say IMO that it is not smart to try to make money from pirated material.

Do what you want but I would hope you see the CONS as well as the Pros.

IMO Get warez, share them but use them as they were meant to be shared.
 
Issue with doing that is when the Furry Bastards of Incomprehensible-stupid catch on prosecution is easy since they not using something Untraceable like XMR (Commonly referred to as Monero for those who aren't familiar ), the using their actual bank details or PayPal talk about Stupid.
 
I myself have bought listings of a similar nature, hence why I'm now banned on PayPal. (Well they don't disclose why I was banned but It was either that or for using a VPN, but could imagine it was definitely the purchase of digital content, place I bought from put it in the description LOL.

I was daft for doing so, but I always knew about piracy and have always been a supporter of it but back then I genuinely didn't know how easily accessible it was to find, I didn't know what "WAREZ" was and the only thing I knew about was piratebay. So when it came to me wanting all my Xbox 360 games I paid for access to a private archive of them..

I'm still learning now, I've came across different DDL sites but have been finding it hard to find some things (tv and movies). But last night I came across a massive list of DDL sites that I'd never heard of before (less common ones). A lot of these DDL sites are in the form of a blog like site, I love it and hope to find more of them, surprisingly I think people should start looking for different country DDL sites, everyone's fixated on English sites but I've seen a few German DDL sites that are equally as good and still have all English content, just means using Google translate on the website.
 
Greed drives some people to take huge risks, I say let them get on with it. It doesn't really affect us or the site. Some stuff I do buy (yes I know I'm a pirate blah blah blah) but some things I would rather buy like black adder complete collection or Prison break, I want a few others but moneys too tight to mention lol I want fawty towers and a couple of others that I feel deserve to be bought, can't afford brand new but as good as new is good enough for me.

its like some music, occasionally I will buy something because I can't find it posted anywhere and that includes looking at youtube but now they do adverts at the front and it means cutting the track to make it proper and that's just too much messing around.

I only use User friendly links in my posts. Nothing tied to earning money if I can help it, despite being in a fundamentally financially unstable life that I lead, I still am not interesting in trying to earn money from uploads. I tried it once quite a long time ago and felt shitty about it so stopped using the site completely.
 
I'll never upload for profit, I'm in a similar financial situation. There is a handful of stuff i do actually buy, I don't ever download cracked steam games, i pay for them if i want them or go to cdkeys and get them cheaper. But tbh even though i used to game a lot i'd stick to the same Games over and over for years on end, so imo there isn't any point pirating if i'm not into a broader genre of games. If i was into everything under the sun then i might consider it. Although Warez on this site is 99% safe i wouldn't want to take a risk downloading Games from anywhere.
 
I am a member of several game sites that are my go to for games, I rarely go anywhere else.

I can't afford games at their prices but I have had a few bargain charity things where I've been able to get NFS and a few other games
 
I think the closest to selling anything dodgy online was when I made a little bit of money years ago flashing a handful of Xbox 360 drives when that was a thing. Didn't exactly overcharge either I did it dirt cheap, barely made much off it. I did it more so to provide a service to others.
